Mutant from Protozoo

Check out this neat little application from Protozoo. It allows you to modify and create faces with an easy and simple to use interface. I had reported back in November of a similar app (entry), but this one is much better.

Pembroke Pines Macromedia User Group update

Overwhelmed by the response and interest for the Macromedia MX 2004, September 3rd event, we have had 140+ new members sign up already and counting!

I would like to thank in advance the Macromedia staff and specially Amy Brooks and Ed Sullivan for their efforts to making this happen.

Also, the Tampa Bay MMUG is participating in this event, making us, the only two User Groups in the State of Florida part of this event. The participating User Group list is updated daily, so keep checking, should a UserGroup participate near you at the last minute.

Microsoft Online Seminars

Check out Microsofts Online Seminar page. You'll find the latest streaming media seminars presented by the experts.

The presentations are not, bad but looking at the bulk of items that need to be pre-loaded for one seminar and the obvious complexity of the web page, you wonder how much longer it will take for MS and people to see the advantages of Macromedia Flash and Breeze. It is so obvious....why is is so difficult...?

In any case, the content of the seminars is not bad and the subjects are quite interesting. Also, make sure you click on the -View all Presentations- button to see the entire list.

Marble Madness

Does anyone remember playing a game for the Commodore 64 called "Marble Madness". I think I was addicted to it for a while...
Basically you had to control a ball through odd landscapes and gravity wasn't your only enemy.

I mention this because I found this truly exceptional game, made in Director that resembles the "Marble Madness" game. High quality graphics and excellent animation makes you forget you are playing this in a browser.

SoThink Glanda Flash Tool on Microsoft.com

I am somewhat surprised that doing a search for Flash on microsoft.com returned so few results. One of these reults was for SoThink Glanda Flash Tool.

This tool is a simple Flash tool that allows for quick creations of mostly ad-type Flash animations. Developed in China, it is nothing fancy, but not terribly bad either. It also comes with a SWF decompiler for extracting symbols out of swf's.

In any case, my surprise was that microsoft had done little to somehow integrate Flash into their ASP.NET or Windows software applications and, not having their own swf producing software, instead promotes an application of an unknown and small software firm.....

I have wondered why Microsoft hasn't taken any steps to competing with Macromedia and Adobe and come out with a swf producing tool. So, why are they promoting this software? Is this a hint of what is to come? We'll see.....

SQL Server DO's and DONT's

If you are not a dedicated DBA, but simply use SQLServer to manage the data of your web applications, then this article provides some really good tips. It won't go into details of SQL or T-SQL, but just conceptually what you should and should not do.

Your Guide to Looking Busy at Work

The computer has irreversibly changed the workplace. E-mail has replaced memos, Winamp has replaced the portable FM radio and stupid Far Side desktop wallpapers have replaced stupid Far Side wall calendars.

With all these changes, we often overlook the single greatest boom that computers have brough to the employed masses: the ability to look busy.

Stupid Security

"The intent of www.stupidsecurity.com is to expose a particularly seamy aspect of modern life -- misguided thrashings labeled "security" and defended -- if at all -- by an appeal to paranoia. My hope is that by providing a chronicle of really stupid security measures, we can make it more uncomfortable for pointy haired bosses of various types to approve really stupid security measures."...

Blogs go IPO

Is this blogging thing now getting popular or just out of control?

BlogShares is a fantasy stock market for weblogs. Players get to invest a fictional $500, and blogs are valued by inbound links. You invest fictional dollars on shares in blogs. Blogs are valued by their incoming links and add value to other blogs by linking to them. Prices can go up or down based on trading and the underlying value of the blog.
