San Francisco real estate

San Francisco real estate

It is that time of the year when the steamy South Florida weather with its unbearable humidity just makes me want to move anywhere North. I have always wanted to move to the West coast and keep an eye open for a reasonable priced house. Now and then, I check out the listings for the Puget Sound, Portland and why not, San Francisco. Now, I do not know what parallel universe Northern California is in, but it seems the General laws of real estate and common sense do not apply there. It is somewhat impossible to find anything under $400k. I mean anything, anywhere, around the bay area. It is hard to believe but see the listing below. This is not a joke or a "Ripley's believe it or not" fact. This a real listing I came across when looking for houses. This house was built in 1885! Hurry, it is still for sale.  San Francisco, CA 94124 – MLS ID#: 273790 $350,000 3 Bed, 2 Bath 683 Sq....

Use your Nouse (Nose as Mouse)

Use your Nouse (Nose as Mouse)

Perceptual user interfaces (PUI) are systems that use users' motion – such as the motion of the face – to control a software program. A technology developed by NRC-IIT, Nouse – which stands for "nose as mouse" – is based on tracking the rotation and scale invariant nose feature, defined as the closest point to the camera. The main application of this technology is seen in designing intelligent hands-free perceptual user interfaces to supplement the conventional input devices such as mouse, joystick, track ball etc. read more:...

Seattle visit next week

Ok, after talking about it for so long, I have made up my mind and have decided to take the steps to move out to the Seattle area. I will be flying out for a few days or so to explore and drive through neighborhoods and see some homes for sale. In the meantime, I will need to start focusing my job/project search to the East Puget Sound area. If a good opportunity comes up, it will be all I need to get out of steamy South Florida… But then again, it has happened before; while waiting for that opportunity 3000 miles away, a good, local project has crept up and kept me here for longer than I really wanted to. We will see what...

Available again

I know it has been a while since I last posted, but something tells me I will have plenty of time to post more often in the near future. Beckman Coulter, the company I am consulting for, is moving software development from Miami to Indianapolis and are ending my contract this week (Sept 15, 2004) , which will put me in the "looking…" category again. I could use a break of a week or two, but will start looking in the meantime. My wife and I have talked about moving West for the last 5 years or so, and a good job has always been the reason not to, so maybe this is the push in the back that will make us take that...

Microsoft Research

I recently stumbled upon this site of Microsoft that lists all (?) the projects their research teams are working on. You will find some (and some not…) very interesting topics and a great source for inspiration for us developers and for research teams of other companies (MM?) to see what is brewing elsewhere…. Find out what Microsoft is doing to improve their products in the next two to ten years....
