Remember Macromedia.com back in 1996?

Well…I don't. I don't think I had heard of Macromedia till early 1998. But if you want to see what the site looked like in those days, try this: www.macromedia.com or see many other snapshots of the site taken between 1996 and today at www.archive.org...

Flash Communication Hosting

Influxis has recenly upgraded to Flash Communication Server 1.5 and also upgraded all accounts with more concurrent connections. If you already have your own hosting and need to experiment with FlashComm, they are a good option. They only offer FlashComm and at a very affordable price too. 10$ per month buys you 10 connections (ofcourse the bandwith is limited…, but for experimenting purposes, I think it is a good deal). They also have a nifty application to managage your application folders and move your files with ease. Check them out at:...

Amazing 3d Engine

I remember a few years ago I saw a demo of the "Unreal" 3d engine, mostly used for games. It would allow you to virtually walk through a 3d environment. Since then, I have seen some good and bad attempts to recreate a similar engine in Flash. Well… Florian Krush and Kai Hofmann have developed one of the best 3d environment engines (made in Flash) I have seen. Check it out:...

I had attempted in one of my experiments to create such a dynamic menu, but stopped working on it a while ago. Well, Hamza Fawzi has come up with a very good component that is XML driven and has many, many methods to customize it any way you want to. Check it out at Flashcomponents: Hierachical...

Artistic beauty

Check out 27bobs' new website and see how neat this "not so neat" charcoal theme is applied to this great website. And if you thought the interface was cool, check out his samples and experiments. Make sure you pay special attention to the scroller component and the interface settings. Click on "interface", then select "custom" and set your own settings. Very well done…....

Kartoo search engine

At the last Coldfusion User Group where I was invited to speak about Flash Remoting, a member pointed out a terrific example of a Flash application. It is a search engine like no other, giving you visual detail of the relevance of your searches. The size of the symbol represents the relevance and the connections, well the related sites to the specific words you typed in. The accuracy is also pretty good. I did a search for a site that I recently build and it came back with that site, plus all other sites I have built. Check it out:...
